Trauma
Therapy
If you have experienced trauma and are struggling to cope, I can help. As a trauma therapist based in San Francisco, I provide psychotherapy for adults with PTSD, developmental trauma, attachment trauma, and survivors of childhood neglect and abuse.
Whether it was a single event or many years of abuse, therapy can help you to regain trust.
After we experience a traumatic event, we may find ourselves feeling chronically depressed, anxious, hypervigilant, and reactive. Or we might experience panic attacks or feel incredibly numb and dissociated. This may lead to us isolating ourselves to try to regain a sense of control, or acting self destructively through substances or unhealthy relationships. We may find ourselves obsessively thinking about how we are perceived by others and feel unable to connect. This cycle can be so confusing and painful.
Going through the traumatic experience itself is hard, but the way that the world is reflecting back to you messages that it is all your fault is doubly painful.
I would like to offer you a road towards self compassion.
When we survive the unthinkable, our incredibly resilient body-mind-spirit complex creates survival strategies to get us through the event or series of events. The problem is that we get stuck in these strategies that are frozen in time and we end up applying them to the wrong situations in the present moment. So often, we are blamed or held responsible for reacting to the situations that we have gone through.
In therapy, we can help you to reconnect with your body and learn to settle your nervous system.
Let go of things that are ready to be released. Feel things that are ready to be felt. Give yourself permission to be angry, sad, or a hot mess if that is what is needed.
This process will honor all parts of you and the interplay between the parts of ourselves that we feel ashamed of or avoid and the ultimate Self who has the inner knowledge of how to heal themselves.
We will process the trauma and the emotions that are associated with it like guilt, shame, anger, grief, etc. Through this process you can find a sense of inner peace and trust in the loving nature of the universe again.
